Where does your Energy come from?

Our Energy products are based on a unique, complex carbohydrate created from non-GMO cornstarch called LIVSTEADY. It delivers steady energy to your system by slowly releasing carbohydrates as fuel, rather than the spike and crash of the typical sugary sports nutrition products you may have tried before.    It was originally discovered to save the life of our founder's son, who was born with a rare metabolic disorder, that prevents him from breaking down the body's natural source of stored energy - glycogen.  You can read more about our story here.

Why are there so few calories in UCAN?

The reason you may be reading plans that recommend more carbohydrates than UCAN recommends is that our patented primary ingredient, LIVSTEADY, acts differently in your system than many fast-acting, sugary gels, drinks, and chews do. 

UCAN is different from other gels/chews/powders is that LIVSTEADY keeps your blood sugar really stable, unlike the sugar crash you may feel if you take other products while running or exercising. Through both our research studies and feedback from our customers and athletes, we have validated that runners need far fewer carbohydrates during a run when they fuel with UCAN than they would if fueling with traditional sports nutrition.   Check out our athletic clinical trials here.

Give it a try and experience the difference yourself! Our suggestion is to try out UCAN on a longer effort. Fueling once before you start with either 
UCAN Energy Powders or UCAN Edge and then with one Edge every hour or so after that. If you still feel like you need more, you could shorten the interval between the fueling times, but our customers typically say 45-70 minutes is their sweet spot. 


Can I bake with UCAN?

Yes, you can bake using UCAN Energy Powders. Low temperatures <350 degrees Fahrenheit should not diminish the efficacy of our Energy Powders. Our co-founder frequently bakes using UCAN and so do many of our ambassadors and athletes.  


Why can't I just use Cornstarch from the grocery store?

Our patented carbohydrate LIVSTEADY is a non-GMO cornstarch that is hydrothermally cooked using heat, moisture, and pressure, without chemicals or enzymes over a prolonged period of time.  This cooking process changes the molecular structure of the cornstarch, making it into a complex carbohydrate that is slow-releasing and doesn't spike your blood sugar as much as regular cornstarch would, giving you longer-lasting energy levels.  Think of our cooking process like changing a white potato into a sweet potato - a much more complex carbohydrate comes out the other side of cooking.    

Our founder's son, prior to the discovery of LIVSTEADY was taking cornstarch every 2 hours to regular his blood sugar while he slept, but the cornstarch could never regulate it for longer than 2 hours while he slept, no matter how much he pre-loaded with.  With the discovery of LIVSTEADY, our founder's son was able to pre-load multiple servings of LIVSTEADY before bed, which allowed him to sleep for 8 hours without any blood sugar imbalances.  You can read more about our story here.  And check out our athletic clinical trials here.
